Šarūnas Sakalauskas

Born on the 17th of July, 1960

Qualification category:
Lithuanian honoured coach

Career and achievements: 

  • 1977 Lithuanian youth Champion with "Zalgiris" Kaunas youth basketball team.
  • 1982 Lithuanian championship with "Atletas" Kaunas.
  • 1982 Graduation from the Institute of Physical Education in Kaunas, started working as a basketball coach.
  • 1982-1990 Coaching junior teams in Marijampole.
  • 1995 Doctor of social science.
  • 1994 – 1998 reaching the play-offs every year with "Sakalai" Vilnius.
  • 1996 European Champion with the Lithuanian Men's "22 and under" national team.
  • 1997 Coach of the Lithuanian youth team during the World Championships
  • 1998 Head coach of "Lietuvos Rytas" Vilnius.
  • 1999 Second place in the Lithuanian Basketball League behind the European Champion "Zalgiris" Kaunas.
  • 1999 - 2000 Lithuanian champion with "Lietuvos Rytas" Vilnius.
  • 1999 - 2000 Semi-final of the "Saportas Cup" with "Lietuvos Rytas" Vilnius.
  • 1999 - 2000 "NEBL" finals with "Lietuvos Rytas" Vilnius.
  • 1999 - 2000 Participation to the Euroleague.
  • After the season 1999 - 2000 7th place in the European coach ranking.(Information French Basketball magazine "Basket Hedbo")
  • 2000 Olympic Games, two of my players A. Giedraitis and R. Siskauskas have won Team bronze medals with Lithuanian National.
  • 2001 - 2004 Head coach of second German Basketball League team "Eisbären Bremerhaven"
  • 2004 - 2005 Champions in the second league and moved to the first league (BBL).
  • 2005 - 2006 "Coach of the Year" in Germany.
  • 2009 Associate professor in Mykolas Romeris University.
  • 2011 Head coach in Sarunas Marciulionis Basketball Academy.
  • Held several lectures for basketball coaches in Germany, Poland, Scotland and Lithuania.
  • Able to speak and write German, English and Russian.
